MINUTES OF THE YC-AFT EXECUTIVE BOARD,
April 19, 2003
1. The meeting of the executive board Yuba College-American Federation of Teachers, Local 4952 was called to order of April 19, 2003 at the Cactus Grill in Clear Lake, California at 12 PM.
2. Those present were Jim Kitchen,Dave Althausen, Dan Salamone, Doug Harris, Tom Marquette, Andy Weiss, Suzanne Wakim, and Jeff Freitas (California Federation of Teachers Area Representative).
3. The minutes of March 19, 2003 were approved as submitted.
4. President’s Report
A. Report from Chancellors office of employment trends through Fall 2002:
I. System wide: full-time employment is down approximately 400 people. Part-time employment is up approximately 11,000 people.
B. We would like to see an official policy from the administration that part-timers can teach a 60% load (18 units)
I. Current policy (as stated in the new contract) is that part-timers can teach 16 units without permission (18 units with written permission). This is 2 units more than the old policy.
5. We will have 3 representatives at the ULI (Union leadership institute) – West 2003
6. CFT 2003 State Convention, March 21-23 in San Francisco: Suzanne Wakim’s report was included in the last newsletter.
7. Tom Marquette is currently working on a web page. Jeff Freitas supplied information for web sponsoring through the CFT.
8. Dan Salamone submitted names for the Staff recognition dinner. There are approximately 5 part-timers being recognizedf or 20 or 25 years of service.
A. The dinner will be held on May 22 at the Peach Tree golf and country club in Marysville. Tickets are $30 a person
I. The invitation does not currently list part-timers who will be recognized.
II. MSP – We will purchase 10 tickets.
9. MSP – Pay yearly dues ($200) for Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce.
10. The next board meeting will be meeting in Marysville on Wednesday April, 23, 2003.
A. Jim Kitchen will attend this meeting.
B. The labor management meeting on Tuesday April, 22 is canceled because the council will be in Clear Lake.
11. The district council will meet in Clear Lake on Tuesday April, 22 2003.
A. The Clear Lake campus no longer has a part-timer on the site council.
B. Woodland campus is the only campus that has a part-timer on the site council.
12. Academic Senate report: Dave Althausen.
A. There will be a new president next year, current president is retiring at the end of the year.
B. Parking fees: debating about raising parking fees to $100 / year.
I. Fall - $40, Spring - $40, Summer - $20
II. Dave Althausen suggested that this fee be pro-rated.
C. debated raising dorm fees and 2 other resolutions.
13. A part-timer who has been fighting for full-time status due to amount of hours worked currently has a full-time offer. This offer is currently being considered.
14. Adjournment
A. Meeting was adjourned at 1:45 PM
B. Next Meeting is scheduled for May 24, 2003 in Marysville.
